Telling Time to 15 Minutes | Mystery Detective Worksheets | Grades K–4 | Monster Theme

$4.00 USD

Telling time to the quarter hour worksheets for 1st grade and 2nd grade: five math pages, five Mystery Detective cases, sixteen analog clocks on each. No prep, print and go, full answer keys, for math centers, morning work, early finishers, homework and sub plans in the weeks after o'clock and half past are done. A teacher in the school has turned into a monster and only the clocks will say which one, so students read each clock, write the digital time and cross a suspect off with every correct answer; a misread quarter to matches no clue, which sends them back to the clock face before you ever see the page, and the whole CSI Mini Mystery Detective week prints from one file.

Quarter to is the reading a class is proudest of, because the minute hand has moved on and the hour hand has not, and sixteen clocks a page is what makes it stick. A misread time matches none of the clues, so students look again without being asked. Eighty clock faces across five math pages, one Mystery Detective monster to unmask by Friday.

O'clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to all come up on every page. Each time a student writes matches one clue, and that clue gets crossed off. One of the teachers has turned into a monster, and the clocks show which one.

The Five Cases

All five cases follow one story: a teacher somewhere in the school has turned into a monster. Each case has new suspects and a new page of clocks.

What's Inside

  • Five cases in color with analog clocks
  • Black and white copies
  • Answer keys
  • Five monster wanted posters
  • A display banner
  • A teacher instruction page

What Is a CSI Mini Mystery Detective?

Each case is a single page. Students read the clocks, write the digital times and cross off the clues that match. The last teacher left is the monster.

When to Use This Resource

Use these once your class can read o'clock and half past and is ready for quarter past and quarter to. They also make a good review at the start of 2nd grade. The posters and banner turn the pack into a classroom display. They work as homework, for small groups, on sub days and in homeschool.

Grade Levels

Written for 1st grade and 2nd grade, and useful in 3rd grade for review.

Why Teachers Love These Cases

  • Quarter hours on every page
  • Analog to digital practice
  • Wanted posters and a banner
  • Color and black and white

How Math Mysteries Work

Each Math Mystery resource gives you five one-page cases that turn math practice into a clue-based investigation. Here's exactly how a case plays out.

CASE FILE 5 MYSTERIES

Every set is a ready-to-solve investigation

Students become the math detective. They read a story, crunch the numbers, and use their answers as evidence to rule out suspects — until only the culprit is left standing.

1
STEP 01

Read the Case

Each mystery opens with a short, themed story that sets the scene and tells students exactly what they're trying to find out — who took something, what went missing, or what really happened.

Hooks them in seconds
2
STEP 02

Solve the Problems

Students work through a set of problems built around the target skill. Every answer is a clue — so there's a real reason to get each one right.

Focused skill practice
3
STEP 03

Eliminate Suspects

Students match their answers against the suspect list and cross off names one clue at a time. Wrong math means the wrong suspect — so the activity self-checks as they go.

STEP 04

Crack the Case

One suspect is left — and students reveal who did it. The payoff makes review feel like a win, and they're ready to start the next case.
