4th Grade Review | Mystery Detective Worksheets | Back to School | Angles Fractions Area

$5.00 USD

4th Grade Mini Mystery Detective Review for multi-digit multiplication, long division with remainders, place value and rounding, equivalent fractions, decimals to hundredths, measuring angles, area and perimeter, symmetry and line plots are all reviewed in this no-prep 4th grade Mini Mystery Detective pack of math worksheets. Ten one-page detective cases cover a whole year of grade 4 math, one topic per page, so you can use them in any order as back to school review, a beginning of the year assessment for rising 5th graders, end of year review, math centers, morning work, early finishers, sub plans, homework or small group intervention. Use it as a spiral review in the first weeks back, as cumulative practice before a test, or as an end-of-year wrap-up — the ten topics stand alone, so you can hand out one case a day or the whole pack at once. Completely no prep, just print and go.

What's Inside

  • Multi-digit multiplication: 2-digit by 2-digit and 3-digit by 1-digit, set out in the standard algorithm
  • Division with remainders: 3-digit dividends shared into equal groups, deciding what the leftovers mean
  • Place value and rounding: the value of a digit in numbers to the ten thousands, rounding to the nearest ten, hundred and thousand
  • Multiplicative comparison and multi-step problems: "6 times as many as 47", plus 4-digit addition and subtraction in context
  • Symmetry: fold each half-drawn flag out across the mirror line and count the squares in the whole figure
  • Equivalent fractions: read the shaded bar and find the missing numerator
  • Decimals to hundredths: shaded tenths and hundredths grids written as decimals such as 0.07, 0.45 and 0.92
  • Measuring angles: read each angle in degrees off a printed protractor, acute, right and obtuse
  • Area and perimeter: apply the formulas to labeled side lengths, no counting squares
  • Line plots with fractions of an inch: add and subtract eighths to answer questions from the plot
  • A red-inked answer key for every single case

Ten separate cases, each one a single page with a matching answer key. Every page covers a different fourth grade math topic:

What is a Mystery Detective?

A Mystery Detective is a print-and-solve detective activity: an escape room without the locks. Each page sets up a case with a line-up of suspects, and every suspect wears a number on an ID badge. Students solve the problems, cross off the suspect whose badge matches each answer, and the one suspect still standing is the villain.

Because every correct answer eliminates exactly one suspect, the page checks itself. Students know straight away if something has gone wrong, and they will go back and find their own mistake to catch the culprit.

When to Use This Resource

  • Back to school review in 5th grade, to see what stuck over the summer
  • Beginning of the year diagnostic in 4th grade
  • End of year review and test prep
  • Math centers and rotations
  • Morning work and bell ringers
  • Early finishers
  • Emergency sub plans, no explaining required
  • Homework and small group intervention

Grade Levels

Designed for 4th grade and for 5th graders reviewing fourth grade skills at the start of the year. Also beneficial for struggling 6th graders who need a confidence-building recap, and for advanced 3rd graders ready to stretch. Because each page is one topic, you can hand out the pages that match what you are teaching and save the rest.

Why Teachers Love Mystery Detectives

  • Zero prep, just print the pages you need
  • Self-checking, so you are not marking 160 problems
  • Every figure is crisp black and white line art that prints beautifully and saves ink
  • One topic per page, so it works as a diagnostic as well as a review
  • The detective hook keeps students working through problems they would normally groan at
  • Real grade level rigor, not busy work

How Math Mysteries Work

Each Math Mystery resource gives you five one-page cases that turn math practice into a clue-based investigation. Here's exactly how a case plays out.

CASE FILE 5 MYSTERIES

Every set is a ready-to-solve investigation

Students become the math detective. They read a story, crunch the numbers, and use their answers as evidence to rule out suspects — until only the culprit is left standing.

1
STEP 01

Read the Case

Each mystery opens with a short, themed story that sets the scene and tells students exactly what they're trying to find out — who took something, what went missing, or what really happened.

Hooks them in seconds
2
STEP 02

Solve the Problems

Students work through a set of problems built around the target skill. Every answer is a clue — so there's a real reason to get each one right.

Focused skill practice
3
STEP 03

Eliminate Suspects

Students match their answers against the suspect list and cross off names one clue at a time. Wrong math means the wrong suspect — so the activity self-checks as they go.

Self-checking built in

STEP 04

Crack the Case

One suspect is left — and students reveal who did it. The payoff makes review feel like a win, and they're ready to start the next case.
