3rd Grade Review | Mystery Detective Worksheets | Back to School | Multiplication Fractions

$5.00 USD

3rd grade math review activities, back to school math worksheets, and spiral review practice for 3rd grade and 4th grade are all included in this no prep Mini Mystery Detective pack. Ten one-page detective cases cover a whole year of third grade math, making them perfect for beginning of the year review, morning work, math centers, early finishers, sub plans, homework, and test prep. Use it as a spiral review in the first weeks back, as cumulative practice before a test, or as an end-of-year wrap-up — the ten topics stand alone, so you can hand out one case a day or the whole pack at once. Completely no prep - just print and go.

What's Inside

Ten separate cases, each one covering a different third grade math topic:

  • Division facts and missing numbers, with the unknown moving around: 56 divided by 8, ? x 6 = 48, ? divided by 4 = 8
  • Two-step word problems and reading a scaled bar graph to compare and total the data
  • Rounding to the nearest ten and the nearest hundred: 47, 342, 918, 663
  • Adding and subtracting within 1,000 with regrouping and borrowing
  • Telling time to the nearest minute on analog clocks: 3:07, 7:53, 11:27
  • Area and perimeter of rectangles and L-shaped figures, counted in unit squares
  • Polygons, sides and right angles, from triangles and quadrilaterals to hexagons and octagons
  • Equal shares of shapes, working out how much of a whole has been shaded
  • Fractions of a whole: one half of 16, three quarters of 36, five eighths of 48

Ten cases to crack: The Canteen Count, The Shared Snacks, The Sports Day Ledger, The Rounded-Up Roll, The Library Tally, The Minute Hand Heist, The Garden Plot Puzzle, The Shape Shed Scandal, The Painted Panels and The Pantry Share-Out.

Answer keys are included for every single case.

What is a Mini Mystery Detective?

A Mystery Detective is an escape room without the locks. Each page presents a case with a list of suspects, and every suspect wears a number on their ID badge. Students solve the problems, match each answer to a suspect, and cross that suspect off the list.

Because every correct answer eliminates exactly one suspect, the page checks itself. One suspect is left standing at the end, and that is the villain. If the math is wrong, the mystery does not solve - so students catch their own mistakes without you marking a thing.

When to Use This Resource

How Math Mysteries Work

Each Math Mystery resource gives you five one-page cases that turn math practice into a clue-based investigation. Here's exactly how a case plays out.

CASE FILE 5 MYSTERIES

Every set is a ready-to-solve investigation

Students become the math detective. They read a story, crunch the numbers, and use their answers as evidence to rule out suspects — until only the culprit is left standing.

1
STEP 01

Read the Case

Each mystery opens with a short, themed story that sets the scene and tells students exactly what they're trying to find out — who took something, what went missing, or what really happened.

Hooks them in seconds
2
STEP 02

Solve the Problems

Students work through a set of problems built around the target skill. Every answer is a clue — so there's a real reason to get each one right.

Focused skill practice
3
STEP 03

Eliminate Suspects

Students match their answers against the suspect list and cross off names one clue at a time. Wrong math means the wrong suspect — so the activity self-checks as they go.

Self-checking built in

STEP 04

Crack the Case

One suspect is left — and students reveal who did it. The payoff makes review feel like a win, and they're ready to start the next case.
