Multiplication & Division CSI Mystery Worksheets | Grades 3–5 | Zombie Attack

$4.50 USD

October is when this zombie Halloween 3rd grade math review earns its keep: multiplication and division facts, multi-digit addition and rounding to the nearest ten, run as one CSI Mystery Detective case. It plays as a multiplication and division mystery rather than a drill, so several 3rd grade math standards get covered at once. Someone yells RUN, the school grounds are overrun, and the first zombie is still out there somewhere. The CSI math worksheets come in color and black and white and need no setup beyond printing. Students color the right arrow and tally worked problems, ruling out a suspect each time, with answer keys for every page.

The Case: Zombie Attack

Someone yells RUN, and then screams. Your students look out of the classroom window and the school grounds are already gone - the field, the car park, the front steps, all of it overrun. It started with one of them, and the first zombie is still out there somewhere. Work the math and the description narrows, clue by clue, until only one suspect fits it.

What's Inside

  • Checking worked answers for errors and tallying which are correct
  • Division facts used to color the correct arrow to the next clue
  • Addition with three-digit and four-digit numbers
  • Rounding to the nearest ten to shade the right answer
  • A final multi-step problem where the answer is the clue itself
  • Full color and black-and-white versions of every page
  • Answer keys for the whole case

What Is a CSI Mystery Detective Case?

A CSI Mystery Detective case is a printable whodunit in which the answers, not the clues, do the eliminating. Students work the page; every correct answer rules one suspect out; the last name standing is the arrest. Think math escape room with nothing to unlock and nothing to set up. Against ordinary math worksheets it has a built-in check - bad arithmetic leaves a description matching nobody - so students find their own mistakes. It works as a full math activity, in math centers, or as detective activities for early finishers.

When to Use This Resource

  • Spiral review across several third grade standards in one sitting
  • Halloween week in October, when a normal worksheet will not hold them
  • Math centers, early finishers and independent work
  • Emergency sub plans that run themselves
  • Back-to-school weeks and end of year review

Grade Levels

Built for 3rd grade. Second graders can manage it with support on the four-digit addition; fourth graders use it as a quick review of where they have come from. It also suits 4th grade students who need a confidence rebuild across multiplication and division before moving on.

Why Teachers Love CSI Mystery Detective Cases

  • Zero prep - print and hand out
  • Self-checking by design, because a wrong answer breaks the deduction
  • Several standards reviewed in one activity
  • Works as a whole lesson, a center, or a filler for an awkward afternoon
