5th Grade Math Review CSI Math Mystery Worksheets | Grades 5–6 | The Missing School Pet

$4.50 USD

Order of operations, decimals, 2-digit multiplication, rounding and long division all come together in one detective case — students work five clue pages, crossing class pets off the register one clue at a time, until only the missing one is left. No prep, printable and self-checking, it suits end-of-year review, back-to-school in 6th grade, math centers, morning work, homework, early finishers, substitute days and small-group intervention.

Quick Details

Skill: Whole-year 5th grade review — two-step order of operations, adding and subtracting decimals, 2-digit × 2-digit multiplication, rounding decimals, long division · Grades: 5–6 · Format: One full case, 5 clue pages + complete answer keys (printable PDF, color and black-and-white) · Theme: The Missing School Pet

The Case

On Monday morning the pet corner lights are on, the water bottles are full and every cage is neatly closed — but one cage is empty. Fifteen class pets are listed in the register, and only the math will say which one is gone: its color, its name tag, its size and its number.

The 5 Clues

Clue One — The Coded Message — Students evaluate two-step expressions with brackets, then use the key to decode a hidden message.

Clue Two — Brown or White? — Decimal addition and subtraction answers are already filled in; students tick only the correct ones and the bigger tally reveals the pet's color.

Clue Three — Old or New Name Tag? — Students draw a line from each 2-digit × 2-digit product to its answer, and the line passes through the number and letter that give the clue.

Clue Four — Round and Shade — Students round decimals to the nearest tenth and hundredth and shade the correct box; the letters they did not shade spell the size of the pet.

Clue Five — The Number Maze — Long division: students color the path matching each quotient, follow it to the next problem, and the last box gives the pet's number.

Why Teachers Love It

Zero prep — print and teach. Because every clue page is a different skill and every page is self-checking, one activity shows you where the gaps are without handing out a test. The detective hook pulls in reluctant and struggling learners, and five separate pages make it easy to run one a day for a week.

Skills Covered

Evaluating two-step expressions with the order of operations and brackets, adding and subtracting decimals to hundredths with the place values lined up, multiplying 2-digit by 2-digit numbers with the standard algorithm, rounding decimals to the nearest tenth and hundredth, and dividing 3-digit numbers by 2-digit divisors — plus logical reasoning and deductive elimination as students rule suspects out clue by clue.

What's Included

A story page that sets up the case, five printable clue worksheets, the suspect chart with its fur, color, tag, size and number columns, complete answer keys and clear student instructions — every page in full color and in an ink-saving black-and-white version, all in one PDF.

Best Used For

End-of-year math review, back-to-school review at the start of 6th grade, math centers and rotations, morning work and bell ringers, homework, early finishers, substitute and relief days, small-group intervention and test prep for Grades 5–6.
