Long Division (4-Digit, No Remainders) | Mystery Detective Worksheets | Grades 4–6 | Printable Detective Pack

$4.00 USD

Long division worksheets for 4th grade and 5th grade, with 4 digit dividends, single digit divisors and no remainders, so every quotient lands on a suspect exactly. Five CSI Mini Mystery Detective math cases where students work each division and cross a name off the lineup until the culprit is left, which makes the set self-checking math activities for the division unit. No prep, print and go, full answer keys, for math centers, early finishers, homework, morning work, test prep and sub plans, any month of the year.

Long division is the topic that rewards getting all the way down the page, and a CSI Mini Mystery Detective math case file is the reason students do, because the culprit is on the last question. Each quotient matches one name, so the page is self-marking, and the answer key behind every sheet is a quick glance for you.

Each case has its own villain lineup, with names like Painting Pirate, Dewey Demon and Heist Master. Students divide, find the suspect whose number matches the quotient, and cross that suspect off. If a step goes wrong, the quotient won't be on the list, which sends them back to check their working.

The Cases

  1. The Art Gallery Theft - a prize painting goes missing
  2. Championship Soccer Ball - stolen before the big game
  3. Rare Book Disappearance - the library's last copy
  4. Experimental Lab - a science lab sabotaged
  5. The Bank Vault - the bank vault broken into

What's Inside

  • Five case pages, each with its own suspect lineup
  • Long division with 4 digit dividends and 1 digit divisors
  • No remainders
  • An answer key for every case
  • Teacher instructions

What Is a CSI Mini Mystery Detective?

Every case is a single page. There's a crime at the top, division problems below it and a lineup of villains, each with a number. Students cross off the villain that matches each answer. The one left over did it.

When to Use This Resource

This set is for the point in the division unit when the standard algorithm has been taught and students are ready to use it without help. Because every answer is exact, the focus stays on dividing, bringing down and subtracting in the right order. It also works for test prep, small groups, sub days and homeschool.

Grade Levels

Written for 4th grade and 5th grade. 6th graders can use it for fluency before remainders and decimal quotients.

Why Teachers Love These Cases

  • No remainders to deal with
  • Each case has a different crime
  • Nothing to prep
  • Students can see when a quotient is wrong

How Math Mysteries Work

Each Math Mystery resource gives you five one-page cases that turn math practice into a clue-based investigation. Here's exactly how a case plays out.

CASE FILE 5 MYSTERIES

Every set is a ready-to-solve investigation

Students become the math detective. They read a story, crunch the numbers, and use their answers as evidence to rule out suspects — until only the culprit is left standing.

1
STEP 01

Read the Case

Each mystery opens with a short, themed story that sets the scene and tells students exactly what they're trying to find out — who took something, what went missing, or what really happened.

Hooks them in seconds
2
STEP 02

Solve the Problems

Students work through a set of problems built around the target skill. Every answer is a clue — so there's a real reason to get each one right.

Focused skill practice
3
STEP 03

Eliminate Suspects

Students match their answers against the suspect list and cross off names one clue at a time. Wrong math means the wrong suspect — so the activity self-checks as they go.

STEP 04

Crack the Case

One suspect is left — and students reveal who did it. The payoff makes review feel like a win, and they're ready to start the next case.
