Comparing numbers worksheets for 3rd grade and 4th grade, with comparing multi-digit numbers, greatest and least of three, and expanded form all in one no prep CSI Mini Mystery Detective math pack. There are ten printable cases with a soccer theme. These place value math activities fit math centers, morning work, homework and early finishers, and every case has an answer key.
Use this pack in your place value unit when your class starts comparing numbers. Students match each answer to a suspect's badge and cross the name off, and each page is self-checking. The numbers in each problem share the same digits, which means students have to compare place by place.

When to Use This Resource
The cases start with two 4-digit numbers, then zeros and numbers with different digit counts, then three numbers at once, and then the same ideas with 5- and 6-digit numbers and expanded form. A 3rd grade class can work through the first four cases and stop there, while a 4th grade class can use them as a quick warm-up before the bigger numbers. The final mixed case works as a check at the end of the unit. Every case stands on its own. It also works for guided math groups, bell ringers, test prep, sub days, homeschool and back to school place value review.
Grade Levels
Cases 1-4 are written for 3rd grade, with numbers up to 9,999. Cases 5-10 are written for 4th grade, with 5- and 6-digit numbers and expanded form, so the whole pack also works as a 4th grade beginning of the year review or extension work for a strong 3rd grade class.
