2-Digit Addition Without Regrouping | Mystery Detective Worksheets | Grades 1–3 | Printable Detective Pack

$4.00 USD

2 digit addition with no regrouping worksheets for 1st grade and 2nd grade: five short math sheets, each a Mystery Detective page for the first half of the year. Print and go with full answer keys: no prep math activities for morning work, math centers, early finishers, homework and sub plans. Short pages of 2 digit addition without regrouping for 1st grade and 2nd grade, set around school, that a six year old can finish and feel good about. They suit math centers, morning work and early finishers in the first half of the year, with a CSI Mini Mystery Detective story on every page.

The first half of first grade is where addition without carrying gets its practice, and a missing toy to find is what makes the practice worth doing for a six year old. Every total takes a clue off the list, so they finish the page to learn who did it, and one case fits a morning work slot. Each CSI Mini Mystery Detective math page is self-marking, with an answer key included.

The Cases

  1. The Missing Toy - a classmate's toy has gone
  2. Mystery Present - a gift with no name on it
  3. The Missing Fruit - someone took the lunchbox fruit
  4. The Missing Student - one child is absent, nobody knows who
  5. Gotcha - a student caught doing the right thing

What's Inside

  • Five case files, each one page of 2 digit addition with no regrouping
  • Sixteen sums on every case, with every total under 100
  • Four clue lists on each page, so the class names the who, the where, the when and the what
  • A black and white copy of all five cases for everyday printing
  • An answer key for every case
  • Print and go: nothing to cut, laminate or set up

What Is a CSI Mini Mystery Detective?

A CSI Mini Mystery Detective is a single printed page with a crime on it and four lists of clues running down the side. Each clue carries a number, every correct total matches one of them, and that clue is struck out. Sixteen questions later one name, one place, one time and one object are left standing, and those are the answer. The arithmetic is the only way in.

When to Use This Resource

These fit the weeks after addition within 20 is secure and a class is meeting two digit columns for the first time. Because nothing carries, students can settle into lining up tens and ones with only one thing to think about, which is exactly what you want before regrouping is taught. Later in the year the same five cases make a solid confidence page for anyone who needs one.

Use it for morning work, math centers, early finishers, homework, sub plans and homeschool lessons, with a whole class, a small group or one student.

Grade Levels

Written for 1st grade and 2nd grade. First graders meet these once addition within 20 is secure, and second graders use them as a warm up in the weeks before regrouping starts.

Why Teachers Love These Cases

  • A wrong answer shows up on its own, because no clue will match it
  • Nothing to prepare beyond pressing print
  • Five cases covers a full week of morning work
  • Works with a whole class, a small group, partners or one student

How Math Mysteries Work

Each Math Mystery resource gives you five one-page cases that turn math practice into a clue-based investigation. Here's exactly how a case plays out.

CASE FILE 5 MYSTERIES

Every set is a ready-to-solve investigation

Students become the math detective. They read a story, crunch the numbers, and use their answers as evidence to rule out suspects — until only the culprit is left standing.

1
STEP 01

Read the Case

Each mystery opens with a short, themed story that sets the scene and tells students exactly what they're trying to find out — who took something, what went missing, or what really happened.

Hooks them in seconds
2
STEP 02

Solve the Problems

Students work through a set of problems built around the target skill. Every answer is a clue — so there's a real reason to get each one right.

Focused skill practice
3
STEP 03

Eliminate Suspects

Students match their answers against the suspect list and cross off names one clue at a time. Wrong math means the wrong suspect — so the activity self-checks as they go.

Self-checking built in
4
STEP 04

Crack the Case

One suspect is left — and students reveal who did it. The payoff makes review feel like a win, and they're ready to start the next case.
