4-Digit Box Method Long Division (No Remainders) | Mystery Detective Worksheets | Grades 3–7 | Monster Theme

$4.00 USD

Box method division worksheets for 5th grade and 6th grade, 4 digit dividends by a single digit with no remainders, so every quotient lands on a suspect exactly. One CSI Mini Mystery Detective math case runs across five crime sheets: students work each division in the box, cross a suspect off the lineup and close in on the Monster Among Us. Self-checking math activities for the week the box method is taught, then math centers, early finishers, homework and sub plans, no prep, full answer keys.

The box method only sticks if students use it for a full week while the steps are still in front of them, and five sheets that run one CSI Mini Mystery Detective math case is the set for that week. Each quotient has to match a name, so a slip inside the box shows up on the lineup and they go back themselves rather than handing it to you.

Monster Among Us

A monster is sitting in class and nobody has spotted which one. Students divide their way through the lineup and each quotient crosses off another suspect. All five crime sheets run this one case, so the class keeps narrowing it down page after page until the last name standing is the monster.

What's Inside

  • Five crime sheets, each with its own lineup of suspects, all running the one case
  • Box method division with a 4 digit dividend and a single digit divisor
  • No remainders anywhere, so every quotient lands on a suspect exactly
  • Each answer matches one suspect and no other, so the page checks itself
  • A full answer key for every sheet
  • Print and go: no cutting, no laminating, nothing to prepare

What Is a CSI Mini Mystery Detective?

A CSI Mini Mystery Detective puts a crime, a lineup and a page of math in front of your class, and the only way to name the culprit is to get the math right. Each suspect carries a number, each solved question matches one of them, and that suspect is crossed off until a single name remains. Because a wrong quotient eliminates the wrong person, these detective activities make students check their work in a way math worksheets cannot. One case takes a class period.

When to Use This Resource

This belongs in the week you teach the box method, when students can follow the steps with you at the board and then lose the thread on their own. Keeping remainders out means nothing distracts from the method itself, and the case running across all five sheets keeps the class going to the end of the set. A slip in any box crosses off the wrong suspect, so they find it and work back.

Use it for test prep, homework, math centers, morning work, early finishers, sub plans and homeschool lessons, with a whole class, a small group or one student.

Grade Levels

Written for 5th grade and 6th grade, where multi digit division sits in the standards. Fourth graders take it once the box method is taught and the no remainder scope keeps the focus on the steps, and 7th graders use it as fluency practice before decimal quotients.

Why Teachers Love These Cases

  • No remainders, so the box method itself is the only thing being practiced
  • Students trace their own mistake back when the wrong suspect comes off
  • No prep, and the answer key makes grading quick
  • Works with a whole class, a small group, partners, or one student alone

How Math Mysteries Work

Each Math Mystery resource gives you five one-page cases that turn math practice into a clue-based investigation. Here's exactly how a case plays out.

CASE FILE 5 MYSTERIES

Every set is a ready-to-solve investigation

Students become the math detective. They read a story, crunch the numbers, and use their answers as evidence to rule out suspects — until only the culprit is left standing.

1
STEP 01

Read the Case

Each mystery opens with a short, themed story that sets the scene and tells students exactly what they're trying to find out — who took something, what went missing, or what really happened.

Hooks them in seconds
2
STEP 02

Solve the Problems

Students work through a set of problems built around the target skill. Every answer is a clue — so there's a real reason to get each one right.

Focused skill practice
3
STEP 03

Eliminate Suspects

Students match their answers against the suspect list and cross off names one clue at a time. Wrong math means the wrong suspect — so the activity self-checks as they go.

Self-checking built in

STEP 04

Crack the Case

One suspect is left — and students reveal who did it. The payoff makes review feel like a win, and they're ready to start the next case.
