4-Digit Addition with Regrouping | Mystery Detective Worksheets | Grades 2–5 | Robot Theme

$4.00 USD

Robot 4 digit addition with regrouping worksheets for 3rd grade and 4th grade, five math activities set as Mystery Detective cases, sixteen sums a page that carry more than once. No prep and print and go, full answer keys, math centers, morning work, early finishers, homework and sub plans, for any month a class needs the practice. A computer chip vanishes from the workshop, a robot goes missing overnight and a battle needs sorting out, and every correct total knocks a suspect off the list until one robot remains; a wrong total is nowhere on the page, so the slip gets caught at the desk and one CSI Mini Mystery Detective download keeps them adding to the bottom.

Carrying twice in the same sum is the skill this pack builds, and the clue list rewards careful work all the way down the page. The total either appears on the list or it does not, so a student catches a slip at problem three instead of at marking time. Robot math with Mystery Detective rules, and the robots are what keep them coming back.

The Cases

  • Computer Chip - a part has gone from the workshop
  • Missing Robot - one of the line-up has vanished overnight
  • Robot Repairs - working out who patched up which machine
  • Robot Battle - sorting out what actually happened
  • Robot Gift - the last case, and the one with the twist

What's Inside

  • Five robot case files, sixteen addition problems on each
  • Four digit addition with regrouping throughout
  • Answer keys for all five cases
  • Suspect and clue lists printed beside the problems
  • A teacher instruction page - print and go, nothing to cut
  • One download, no prep and no laminating

What Is a CSI Mini Mystery Detective?

One printed page holding one crime and the clue lists that solve it. Every clue carries a number, the sixteen sums on the page produce those numbers, and a correct total crosses a clue off. Work to the last question and a single suspect is left standing. Miss a carry and nothing matches, so the page checks itself.

When to Use This Resource

Use this once four digit addition has been taught and needs practicing until it is automatic, which is usually the middle of 3rd grade. It works just as well at the start of 4th grade as revision before multi digit multiplication asks for the same carrying. Nothing in it is seasonal, so it runs in any month. Reach for it in math centers, morning work, early finishers, homework, sub plans and homeschool lessons, with a whole class, a small group or one student.

Grade Levels

Written for 3rd grade and 4th grade, and useful in 5th grade for students who still need column addition firmed up before decimals arrive.

Why Teachers Love These Cases

  • A wrong total matches no clue, so students catch their own slips
  • Robots hold a class that has gone cold on plain worksheets
  • Five cases is a full week from one print run
  • Works any month - nothing in it is tied to a season

How Math Mysteries Work

Each Math Mystery resource gives you five one-page cases that turn math practice into a clue-based investigation. Here's exactly how a case plays out.

CASE FILE 5 MYSTERIES

Every set is a ready-to-solve investigation

Students become the math detective. They read a story, crunch the numbers, and use their answers as evidence to rule out suspects — until only the culprit is left standing.

1
STEP 01

Read the Case

Each mystery opens with a short, themed story that sets the scene and tells students exactly what they're trying to find out — who took something, what went missing, or what really happened.

Hooks them in seconds
2
STEP 02

Solve the Problems

Students work through a set of problems built around the target skill. Every answer is a clue — so there's a real reason to get each one right.

Focused skill practice
3
STEP 03

Eliminate Suspects

Students match their answers against the suspect list and cross off names one clue at a time. Wrong math means the wrong suspect — so the activity self-checks as they go.

STEP 04

Crack the Case

One suspect is left — and students reveal who did it. The payoff makes review feel like a win, and they're ready to start the next case.
