4-Digit Addition and Subtraction | Mystery Detective Worksheets | Grades 2–5 | Thanksgiving Theme

$4.00 USD

Thanksgiving 4 digit addition and subtraction worksheets for 3rd grade and 4th grade, five turkey math cases, each a Mystery Detective page of sixteen sums across four columns. Print and go with full answer keys: November math activities, no prep, for morning work, math centers, early finishers, homework and sub plans. For 3rd grade and 4th grade, this is 4 digit addition and subtraction with regrouping in a Thanksgiving setting, the turkey math a class will finish in the week of the holiday. Use it as a November math center, a homework set or a sub plan, and the CSI Mini Mystery Detective format means students check their own work.

Four digit columns in the week of a holiday get finished when there is a stolen turkey to find, because the only way to the thief is through the sums. The pages are self-marking, with an answer key for every case. Any CSI Mini Mystery Detective math case left over is a math center in December.

The Cases

  1. The Missing Turkey - somebody has taken the turkey
  2. Thanksgiving Party - an invitation with no sender
  3. Acts of Kindness - good deeds and nobody owning up
  4. Who is Carving the Turkey - the feast needs a carver
  5. Thank You Gift - a gift on the desk, unsigned

What's Inside

  • Five Thanksgiving cases, each a page of 4 digit addition and subtraction
  • Sixteen questions per case, with regrouping across four columns
  • Clue lists beside the questions, so one answer removes one clue
  • A black and white copy of all five cases for everyday printing
  • An answer key for every case
  • Print and go: no cutting, no laminating, nothing to prepare

What Is a CSI Mini Mystery Detective?

A CSI Mini Mystery Detective is one page holding a crime and the clue lists that solve it. Each clue carries a number, the questions produce those numbers, and a correct answer crosses that clue off until only the solution is left. It behaves like an escape room with no locks, no app and nothing to charge, and working the four columns accurately is the only key to it.

When to Use This Resource

This is the November set for an older elementary class, best used in the short week before the holiday when nothing ordinary will hold. It is also worth keeping for a multi digit review later in the year, since the questions are a standard four column set and the theme sits over the top rather than inside the mathematics. All the instructions are printed on the page.

Use it for morning work, math centers, early finishers, homework, test prep, sub plans and homeschool lessons, with a whole class, a small group or one student.

Grade Levels

Written for 3rd grade and 4th grade. Third graders use these once four digit work has begun, and fourth graders use them as a November review of both operations.

Why Teachers Love These Cases

  • Long columns still get finished in a short holiday week
  • Print and hand out, with nothing to prepare
  • Five cases covers the run up to Thanksgiving
  • Works with a whole class, a small group, partners or one student

How Math Mysteries Work

Each Math Mystery resource gives you five one-page cases that turn math practice into a clue-based investigation. Here's exactly how a case plays out.

CASE FILE 5 MYSTERIES

Every set is a ready-to-solve investigation

Students become the math detective. They read a story, crunch the numbers, and use their answers as evidence to rule out suspects — until only the culprit is left standing.

1
STEP 01

Read the Case

Each mystery opens with a short, themed story that sets the scene and tells students exactly what they're trying to find out — who took something, what went missing, or what really happened.

Hooks them in seconds
2
STEP 02

Solve the Problems

Students work through a set of problems built around the target skill. Every answer is a clue — so there's a real reason to get each one right.

Focused skill practice
3
STEP 03

Eliminate Suspects

Students match their answers against the suspect list and cross off names one clue at a time. Wrong math means the wrong suspect — so the activity self-checks as they go.

Self-checking built in
4
STEP 04

Crack the Case

One suspect is left — and students reveal who did it. The payoff makes review feel like a win, and they're ready to start the next case.
