2-Digit Addition with Regrouping | Mystery Detective Worksheets | Grades 1–3 | Easter

$4.00 USD

Easter 2 digit addition with regrouping worksheets for 1st grade and 2nd grade: five egg hunt cases where each total crosses a suspect off the lineup until the culprit is left. Carrying on every page, so these are real math activities under the Easter cover, and each CSI Mini Mystery Detective case of math checks itself because a wrong total lands on nobody. No prep, print and go, full answer keys, for the week before the break, then math centers, morning work, early finishers, homework and sub plans.

The week before the Easter break is the hardest week of the term to hold a first or second grade class, and a missing egg to find does the holding for you. Students carry, match the total to a suspect and cross the name off, so the room works through the page without you at the front. One Mystery Detective math case a day covers the week.

The Cases

  • The Missing Easter Egg - an egg has been stolen and nobody saw who
  • Easter Egg Basket - a basket turns up on the teacher's desk, unsigned
  • Missing Easter Egg Basket - the Easter Bunny's own basket has gone
  • The Easter Bunny Carrot - somebody has half eaten the carrot
  • Easter Eggs For Everyone - an egg on every desk and no name on any of them

What's Inside

  • Five case files, each a page of 2 digit addition with its own lineup of suspects
  • Every sum needs regrouping, so students carry from the ones to the tens
  • Each total matches one suspect only, so the page checks itself
  • Five Easter stories, so the theme carries the week
  • A full answer key for every case
  • Print and go: no cutting, no laminating, nothing to prepare

What Is a CSI Mini Mystery Detective?

A CSI Mini Mystery Detective is a one page printable investigation your class solves with math. It runs like a math escape room with no locks and no app: each correct answer rules one suspect out of the lineup until a single name is left. One case fits one class period, which suits math centers or a sub plan just as well as a lesson.

When to Use This Resource

March and April is where most teachers reach for these, in the week before the Easter break when a plain worksheet will not hold the room. They also keep regrouping sharp after the unit has moved on.

Use it for test prep, homework, math centers, morning work, early finishers, sub plans and homeschool lessons, with a whole class, a small group or one student.

Grade Levels

Written for 1st grade and 2nd grade. First graders meet carrying here once addition within 20 is secure and second graders use it as fluency practice before three digit work begins.

Why Teachers Love These Cases

  • Students spot their own mistakes when the wrong suspect is crossed off
  • Zero prep in the week nobody has time to prepare
  • One case a day covers a full week of morning work
  • Works with a whole class, a small group, partners or one student

How Math Mysteries Work

Each Math Mystery resource gives you five one-page cases that turn math practice into a clue-based investigation. Here's exactly how a case plays out.

CASE FILE 5 MYSTERIES

Every set is a ready-to-solve investigation

Students become the math detective. They read a story, crunch the numbers, and use their answers as evidence to rule out suspects — until only the culprit is left standing.

1
STEP 01

Read the Case

Each mystery opens with a short, themed story that sets the scene and tells students exactly what they're trying to find out — who took something, what went missing, or what really happened.

Hooks them in seconds
2
STEP 02

Solve the Problems

Students work through a set of problems built around the target skill. Every answer is a clue — so there's a real reason to get each one right.

Focused skill practice
3
STEP 03

Eliminate Suspects

Students match their answers against the suspect list and cross off names one clue at a time. Wrong math means the wrong suspect — so the activity self-checks as they go.

Self-checking built in

STEP 04

Crack the Case

One suspect is left — and students reveal who did it. The payoff makes review feel like a win, and they're ready to start the next case.
