Valentine’s Day CSI Mystery Worksheets | Grades 2–5 | Love Bug Wizard

$4.50 USD

Valentines Day math addition and multiplication CSI Mystery worksheets for February - a no prep CSI Mystery Detective case for 3rd grade, 4th grade and 5th grade, built on 3 digit addition and the multiplication facts. The math worksheets come in color and black-and-white with answer keys, and every correct answer rules one suspect out of the line-up until one name is left. The case: the whole school has gone kind - too kind, all at once - so somebody has been through it with a wand, and the class has to work out which wizard. It plays like a paper-based escape room: a trail of hearts, a letter key to decode, a grid to unscramble.

The Case: Help! The Love Bugs

It is Valentines Day. Not your favorite day of the year, but there is something to be said for a building full of people being unusually nice to each other. Random acts of kindness everywhere. Then it tips over into something else - too nice, all at once, all day - and it becomes clear somebody has been at the school with a wand. Your students need to work out which wizard.

What's Inside

  • Addition along a trail of hearts where an odd or even total settles the clue
  • Three-digit addition decoded through a letter key
  • Checking worked answers for errors and tallying which are correct
  • Circling letters on a grid using multiplication answers, then unscrambling them
  • Multiplication used to color the correct heart and arrow forward
  • Full color and black-and-white versions of every page
  • Answer keys for the whole case

What Is a CSI Mystery Detective Case?

A CSI Mystery Detective case is a printable investigation your class solves with math. It runs like a math escape room with the locks taken out - no app, no boxes, nothing to prepare - and rather than opening something, every correct answer rules one suspect out of the line-up until a single name is left. That is the difference between detective activities and ordinary math worksheets: the arithmetic decides the outcome, so students check their own work first. As a math activity it fills a lesson, a center, or a sub plan.

When to Use This Resource

  • Valentines Day in February, when a normal worksheet will not hold them
  • Addition and multiplication review before or after a unit test
  • Math centers, early finishers and independent work
  • Emergency sub plans that run themselves
  • End of year review, when attention is thin and the work still has to happen

Grade Levels

Built for 3rd grade, 4th grade and 5th grade. Third graders may want their times tables to hand for the grid page; fourth and fifth graders run the case independently inside a lesson. It also suits 2nd grade students who are ahead and want something with more thinking in it.

Why Teachers Love CSI Mystery Detective Cases

  • Zero prep - print and hand out
  • Self-checking by design, because a wrong answer breaks the deduction
  • A Valentines activity that still does real math
  • Works as a whole lesson, a center, or a filler for an awkward afternoon

2

Solve the Clues

Each clue gives students focused math practice using the target skill for that resource.

3

Eliminate Suspects

Students use their answers to remove suspects from the investigation one clue at a time.

4

Crack the Case

By the end, only one suspect remains and students can reveal the answer to the mystery.
