Inside the case file
Thanksgiving multiplication facts practice for 3rd grade, 4th grade and 5th grade, set out as ten CSI Mini Mystery Detective math worksheets. The cases cover the times tables, missing factors and multiplication word problems, and the Thanksgiving dinner theme makes them a good fit for November math. Use them for morning work or homework, or put a case in your math centers. They're no prep, and there's an answer key for each one.
The first seven cases stay with facts up to 10 x 10. Students count pie slices, fill in seating charts, add up bags at a farm stand and jump along number lines. The last three bring in the 11s and 12s, with dozens of dinner rolls and codes for a cider stand. Every answer crosses off one suspect, which means students are checking their own multiplication facts as they work.
What's Inside
- 10 one-page cases with 20 problems on each, 200 problems in all
- An answer key for every case
- Facts with factors from 2 to 10 in Cases 1 to 7. Cases 8 to 10 add the 11s and 12s
- A reference page with worked examples of equal groups, turnaround facts, missing factors, the times grid, number lines and the 11s and 12s
- Teacher instructions, a contents page, a student case log and a Head Feast Inspector certificate
- 30 pages, made to print in black and white
The Cases

- The Runaway Turkey - skip counting on number lines
- The Place Card Puzzle - missing factors that make a code
- The Torn Grocery List - filling in a times grid
- The Cocoa Caper - multiplication word problems
- The Dinner Roll Robbery - 11s, 12s and dozens
- The Cider Stand Cipher - 11s and 12s missing factors

When to Use This Resource
In 3rd grade, use this pack in November while your class is learning the facts up to 10 x 10. The first four cases show each fact as a picture or a pattern, and The Place Card Puzzle moves on to missing factors. A 4th grade class can start at The Torn Grocery List or The Cocoa Caper and then work through the 11s and 12s. For 5th graders it's a quick review of the times tables, or a set of intervention pages for anyone who needs more fact practice. The Empty Platter mixes everything, and it's useful before a fact fluency test. You can also give a single case to a small group, use it as a bell ringer, leave it with sub plans for the days before the holiday, or send it home for homeschool practice.
Grade Levels
Written for 3rd grade (3.OA.C.7) and 4th grade, where the facts go up to 12 x 12. 5th grade teachers can use it for fact review and intervention.
Why Teachers Love Mystery Detectives
Every Mystery Detective pack works the same way. Once your class has solved one case, they know what to do with the next one, in this pack or any other. Each case also stands on its own, which means you can choose the one that fits what you're teaching that day. Naming the villain gives every page a clear end point, and the answer key lets you check a page quickly.
