Thanksgiving CSI Mystery Worksheets | Grades 2–5 | The Missing Turkey

$4.50 USD

November means Thanksgiving, and this Thanksgiving math pack for 2nd grade and 3rd grade turns the week before the feast into a Thanksgiving mystery worth solving. It is a CSI Mystery Detective case built on two-digit addition and subtraction, with a taste of early multiplication and Thanksgiving subtraction with regrouping along the way. It plays like a paper-based escape room: each correct answer crosses one suspect off the line-up until the guest who raided the table stands alone. Full color and black-and-white turkey CSI math worksheets, answer keys, print and go. Students add along a turkey trail, decode letters from a Thanksgiving map and check worked answers before dinner is served.

The Case: Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is nearly here. Aunts and uncles have flown in from the other side of the country, the table is set, and the whole family is finally in one place. Then something goes missing from the feast. It was someone in this house, or someone who was invited, and your students have until dinner to work out which one of them it was.

What's Inside

  • Addition along a turkey trail where the running total settles the clue
  • Reading letters off a Thanksgiving map with a key to decode a message
  • Multiplication used to color the correct acorn and arrow forward
  • Two-digit addition decoded through a letter key
  • Checking worked answers for errors and tallying which are correct
  • Full color and black-and-white versions of every page
  • Answer keys for the whole case

What Is a CSI Mystery Detective Case?

A CSI Mystery Detective case is math practice with a culprit at the end of it. The class works the page, each correct answer rules a suspect out, and the case closes on the last name left. It runs like a math escape room with the hardware removed - no locks, no app, no prep. It is far harder to coast through than ordinary math worksheets, because the arithmetic has to hold or nothing lines up. Use it as a full math activity, in math centers, or as detective activities for early finishers.

When to Use This Resource

  • Thanksgiving week in November, when a normal worksheet will not hold them
  • The days before a holiday, when you still want real math done
  • Math centers, early finishers and independent work
  • Emergency sub plans that run themselves
  • Whole-class detective sessions, small groups or partner work

Grade Levels

Built for 2nd grade and 3rd grade. Second graders usually work the trail pages in pairs; third graders can run the whole case on their own. It also suits 4th grade students who need addition and subtraction review in a form that does not feel like going back a year.

Why Teachers Love CSI Mystery Detective Cases

  • Zero prep - print and hand out
  • Self-checking by design, because a wrong answer breaks the deduction
  • A holiday activity that still does real math
  • Works as a whole lesson, a center, or a filler for an awkward afternoon
