Telling Time CSI Mystery Worksheets | Grades 3–5 | Who Stopped Time?

$4.50 USD

Fall telling time CSI math worksheets for 2nd grade, packaged as a printable CSI Mystery Detective case that lands neatly in an October clock unit. Every clock, watch and timepiece has stopped at the same moment and the police have nothing, so your class takes the case. Students read analog clocks to the hour and half past, tell time to the quarter hour and the nearest 5 minutes, and count on and back in 15-minute steps, ruling one suspect out per correct answer until the culprit is left holding the missing hour. A telling time mystery that stretches to 3rd grade, with answer keys included and nothing to prepare beyond the printer.

The Case: Who Stole Time?

Time has frozen. Every clock, watch and timepiece in the world has stopped at exactly the same moment, and the police have nothing. Your class picks up the case, reads the clocks the investigation left behind, and narrows the suspects down until one is left holding the answer.

What's Inside

  • Reading analog clocks to the hour and the half hour
  • Telling time to the quarter hour and the nearest 5 minutes
  • Counting on and back in 15-minute steps through a maze
  • Adding and subtracting amounts of time to find a missing hour
  • Solving a cryptogram to turn answers into the minutes
  • Reading a suspect chart and matching your answers against it
  • Answer keys included

What Is a CSI Mystery Detective Case?

A CSI Mystery Detective case is a math activity where the reward for accuracy is an arrest. The class works a page of math worksheets, each correct answer clears a suspect, and the case closes on the last name left. It is a math escape room that needs a printer rather than locks or an app. The check is built in: bad arithmetic leaves a description matching nobody, so students go back over it themselves. Good for a full lesson, for math centers, or as detective activities for early finishers.

When to Use This Resource

  • A telling time unit, from first clock faces to the nearest 5 minutes
  • Math centers and small groups
  • Review before a test on time
  • Sub plans and emergency cover
  • Early finishers, morning work and homework
  • Any week the class needs something that holds them

Grade Levels

Designed for 2nd grade, 3rd grade and 4th grade. The hour and half hour pages give a 1st grader a way in, and the 5-minute and 15-minute work stretches a 4th grader who thinks clocks are already behind them.

Why Teachers Love CSI Mystery Detective Cases

  • No prep at all - print it and hand it out
  • Self-checking, so a misread clock face shows up immediately instead of at marking time
  • Every clue uses a different puzzle shape, so the pack holds attention to the last page
  • Students reread the clocks to be certain before they cross a name off
  • Quiet, focused engagement without a single instruction repeated
