Parts of speech review for middle school, built as ten no prep CSI Mini Mystery Detective cases. These grammar worksheets cover verbals (gerunds, participles and infinitives), subordinating conjunctions, pronoun antecedents, intensive pronouns and active and passive voice, with a mixed verbals case and two mixed review cases to finish. Written for 6th grade, 7th grade and 8th grade grammar, every answer is a word students find inside a full sentence. Use these grammar activities for bell ringers, ELA centers, homework, test prep, sub plans and early finishers, with an answer key for every case. Just print and go.
Middle school students take grammar more seriously when there is a case to crack, and this pack has the look and language of a real investigation. A break-in at a tech research lab runs through all ten cases, with sharp, grown-up sentences that suit students from 6th to 8th grade. Every page is self-marking, so students check their own thinking while you move around the room.

When to Use This Resource
Verbals are one of the hardest grammar topics to make stick, so the pack gives gerunds, participles and infinitives a case each before mixing them in The Rooftop Drone. The active and passive voice case asks students who really performed the action, which shows you straight away who understands passive sentences. Each case runs on its own, so you can use one as a bell ringer, a center or a quick check before a quiz. Use it for bell ringers and warm-ups, ELA centers, small group grammar lessons, homework, test prep, sub plans, early finishers, homeschool lessons, and back to school or end of year review.
Grade Levels
Designed for 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Intensive pronouns and pronoun antecedents are 6th grade skills, complex sentences come in 7th grade, and verbals and active and passive voice are 8th grade skills, so the pack works as a full middle school grammar review or as targeted practice one case at a time. Strong 9th graders can use it for a quick refresher.
