These number patterns and ordered pairs worksheets give your 5th grade class ten CSI Mini Mystery Detective math cases on numerical patterns, graphing ordered pairs and the coordinate plane. The treasure map theme fits any time of year, and it's 5.OA.B.3 practice you can use from the first patterns lesson right through to test prep. Put them in your math centers, use them for morning work or homework, or keep a stack for early finishers. They're no prep, and every case comes with an answer key.
Every pair of rules sits right next to a small graph, so kids see each pattern twice: once as a list of numbers and once as points on the coordinate plane. Each answer matches a suspect's badge, and students cross that suspect off as they go. If their answers are right, only one suspect is left at the end.
What's Inside
- 10 one-page cases with 20 questions each, plus an answer key for every case
- Two evidence boards on each page. Each one has an x rule, a y rule and a graph with points A to D
- Different question types on every page: find a term, write the pair, read a point, work back from y to x
- A reference page with a worked example you can project or hand out
- Contents page, teacher instructions, a case log and a certificate
- 30 pages in black and white

When to Use This Resource
Hand these out after your first lesson on two-rule patterns and keep going right up to the unit test. Each page mixes the question types, so you don't have to save certain cases for certain lessons. Use one case a day, or pick cases for review. They're also handy for small groups, bell ringers, sub days, test prep and homeschool, and 6th grade teachers can use them for back to school review.
Grade Levels
Made for 5th grade (5.OA.B.3). It's also a good algebraic thinking warm-up for 6th graders early in the year.
