Multiplication & Division Facts CSI Mystery Worksheets | Grades 3–5 | Mad Scientist (×6 & ×7)

$4.50 USD

3rd grade, 4th grade and 5th grade students return in January with 6 and 7 times tables gone rusty, and these printable math worksheets rebuild fact fluency with a multiplication and division mystery instead of another timed test. In this CSI Mystery Detective case the Mad Scientist has been through the classroom again, everything is quietly wrong, and only a correctly brewed antidote will fix it before anyone else walks in. Students solve multiplication and division facts, and each right answer crosses a suspect off the line-up until one name remains. Every ingredient in the antidote is chosen by a fact, so a wrong fact spoils the mixture.

The Case: The Mad Scientist

After a big weekend your students cannot wait to get to school and tell somebody about it. They hang the bag on the hook, pull the homework out, walk into class - and the class is wrong. Everything in it is wrong, in a way that takes a second to register. The Mad Scientist has been through again, and the antidote has to be brewed before anybody else walks in.

What's Inside

  • Division facts decoded through a key to name the first ingredient
  • A matching page where the line drawn passes through the letter that matters
  • Checking worked facts for errors and tallying which are correct
  • 6 and 7 times table multiplication used to color the correct arrow forward
  • Multi-step problems where the last answers unlock a code chart
  • Full color and black-and-white versions of every page
  • Answer keys for the whole case

What Is a CSI Mystery Detective Case?

Your students get a crime, a line-up and a page of math worksheets - nothing else. The answers do the eliminating: one correct answer, one suspect gone, until only the culprit remains. That is a CSI Mystery Detective case, and it works like a math escape room without the locks or the login. It also marks itself, which a practice page never does, because a wrong answer leaves a description matching nobody. Run it as a whole math activity, in math centers, or as detective activities for early finishers.

When to Use This Resource

  • Times table practice that is not another timed test
  • Consolidating the harder 6 and 7 times tables
  • Math centers, early finishers and independent work
  • Emergency sub plans that run themselves
  • Back-to-school weeks and end of year review

Grade Levels

Built for 3rd grade, 4th grade and 5th grade. The 6 and 7 tables are where recall usually starts to wobble, so third graders often work this one in pairs; fourth and fifth graders run it independently. It also gives 6th grade students whose tables have gone rusty a way to rebuild them.

Why Teachers Love CSI Mystery Detective Cases

  • Zero prep - print and hand out
  • Self-checking by design, because a wrong fact breaks the deduction
  • Fact practice students ask to do again
  • Works as a whole lesson, a center, or a filler for an awkward afternoon
