Multiplication & Division Facts CSI Mystery Worksheets | Grades 2–4 | Mad Scientist (×3 & ×4)

$4.50 USD

3rd grade and 4th grade multiplication and division practice on the x3 and x4 times tables, wrapped in a Mad Scientist CSI Mystery Detective case for February. The last page of your assignment has to be typed in the lab tonight, and the Mad Scientist has been through it, so the only way out is to brew the antidote correctly. Math worksheets in color and black and white, answer keys included, nothing needed beyond a printer. Students decode division facts through a key, follow the 3 and 4 times table trail and crack a code chart, one suspect gone per correct answer, until the multiplication and division mystery is solved.

The Case: The Mad Scientist

Your big assignment is due tomorrow and all that is left is to type the last page on the school computer. You ask for permission, walk down to the lab where the machines are, and the room is not what it was yesterday. Something has been mixed in there. The Mad Scientist has been through, and the only way out is to brew the antidote correctly.

What's Inside

  • Division facts decoded through a key to name the first ingredient
  • 3 and 4 times table multiplication used to color the correct arrow forward
  • Checking worked facts for errors and tallying which are correct
  • Multi-step problems where the last answers unlock a code chart
  • A matching page where the line drawn passes through the letter that matters
  • Full color and black-and-white versions of every page
  • Answer keys for the whole case

What Is a CSI Mystery Detective Case?

A CSI Mystery Detective case is a printable investigation your class closes with math. Each correct answer eliminates one suspect from the line-up, and the case ends when a single name is left. It behaves like a math escape room minus the locks, the app and the setup - you print it and hand it out. What separates detective activities from ordinary math worksheets is that the arithmetic has consequences, so students check their own before handing it in. It carries a whole math activity, a center rotation, or a sub plan.

When to Use This Resource

  • Times table practice that is not another timed test
  • Consolidating the 3 and 4 times tables
  • Math centers, early finishers and independent work
  • Emergency sub plans that run themselves
  • Back-to-school weeks and end of year review

Grade Levels

Built for 3rd grade and 4th grade. Third graders usually run it independently once the 3 and 4 tables are familiar; second graders who are ahead can manage it in pairs. It also gives 5th grade students whose recall has slipped a way to rebuild it without going back to flashcards.

Why Teachers Love CSI Mystery Detective Cases

  • Zero prep - print and hand out
  • Self-checking by design, because a wrong fact breaks the deduction
  • Fact practice students ask to do again
  • Works as a whole lesson, a center, or a filler for an awkward afternoon
