Division worksheets for 3rd grade that teach both meanings of division, equal sharing and equal groups, through ten no prep CSI Mini Mystery Detective math word problem cases. A pirate crew at Skull Cove is splitting coins, treats and supplies, and students work out how many each one gets or how many groups there are, then write the answer as a number and a word. These division word problems build from dividing by 2 to 6 up to dividing by 10, ready for math centers, morning work, homework and early finishers, with answer keys included - just print and go.
When your class first meets division in the middle of the multiplication unit, these cases make the idea of a fair share easy to see. Writing "6 coins" or "6 bags" means students have to think about what their answer counts, which is the heart of this 3rd grade standard. They match each answer to a suspect's badge and cross that name off, so every page is self-marking.

When to Use This Resource
The cases follow the order division is usually introduced: equal sharing first, with small divisors, then larger divisors, then equal groups, and finally pages where students decide for themselves which kind of problem they are reading. That last step is where real understanding of division shows, so the two mixed cases make a ready-made check at the end of the unit. Every case stands on its own, so you can hand out one a day across two weeks, or give the sharing and grouping cases to different small groups. Use it for math centers and rotations, guided math groups, morning work, bell ringers, homework, test prep, sub days, homeschool, early finishers and end of year multiplication and division review.
Grade Levels
Written for 3rd grade, using division facts within 100 (divisors and answers from 2 to 10). It also makes a quick multiplication and division warm-up at the start of 4th grade.
