Inside the case file

This Disguise a Turkey Thanksgiving math digital escape room gives your 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students 25 multiplication and division word problems in one digital game. The problems start with equal groups and basic facts, move through two-step problems, remainders and times as many, and finish with multi-digit multiplication and division. It's a Thanksgiving math activity you can run as a November math center, play together on the board, or hand to early finishers. There's no prep. You share one link and the game checks the answers.

In this one, Tom the turkey hides from Farmer Fran by trying on five disguises, and your class builds them. Every disguise is a different kind of puzzle. Students scare off crows on a number pad, turn a dial and tap eggs into a bowl to scale a recipe, press the scoreboard buttons at the Turkey Bowl, deal letters and pack mailbags, and ring up sales on a cash register. Each solved puzzle adds a costume piece to Tom. If an answer is wrong, Tom says what went wrong. It makes Thanksgiving math practice feel like a holiday treat.

The Story

It's Thanksgiving morning at Maple Hill Farm, and Farmer Fran is calling for Tom. Tom thinks he knows why she wants him, and he isn't sticking around to find out. He needs a disguise. Actually, he needs five. After each disguise is finished, Farmer Fran walks right past him. At the end, Tom learns she only wanted him in the family's Thanksgiving photo.

The Five Disguises

  1. The Scarecrow (cornfield) - crows land with problems about Fran's field: multiplication and division facts in equal rows, typed on the pie-tin number pad
  2. The Chef (farmhouse kitchen) - scale a muffin recipe for a 48-muffin order: turn the batches dial, tap eggs, flour and trays into the mix, set the oven timer
  3. The Football Player (backyard) - run the Turkey Bowl scoreboard with touchdown and field goal buttons, then drag the players onto the podium by total yards
  4. The Mail Carrier (mailbox) - deal letters to the streets, pack mailbags, tie bundles and count the leftover cards
  5. The Pumpkin (pumpkin patch) - ring up pumpkins on the cash register, work 15 × 24 in parts, tap the crate that holds exactly 72, fill in a two-step wagon ticket

What's Inside

  • A digital Thanksgiving escape room with five farm settings and 25 multiplication and division word problems
  • Multiplication and division facts within 100 in equal groups and rows
  • Two-step word problems that mix multiplication with addition or division
  • Multiplicative comparison (times as many) and interpreting a remainder
  • Multi-digit practice: 2-digit by 1-digit and 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication, 3-digit by 1-digit division
  • A short explanation from Tom after every wrong answer
  • A printable Master of Disguise certificate with the student's name, score, date and a family photo from the end of the game
  • A teacher guide PDF with the game link, how to run it and the standards

How It Works

When you buy, you download a PDF that holds the game link. Post the link in Google Classroom or your learning platform, or write the address on the board. The game runs in a web browser on Chromebooks, iPads and laptops. Students don't need logins, and there's nothing to install.

Please remember, this is a digital product. You will download a PDF with the link to the resource.

When to Use This Resource

Use it in the short week before Thanksgiving break, when you want real math practice that still feels like a holiday activity. Students can play alone or with a partner. A small math group can do one disguise a day across the week. It's also an easy sub day plan, since Tom explains wrong answers on his own, and it works for test prep review and for homeschool families in November.

Grade Levels

Written for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade math standards. Third graders practice facts and two-step problems, 4th graders work on times as many, remainders and multi-digit multiplication, and 5th graders get a fast review that ends with 15 × 24 and 126 ÷ 6.

Why Teachers Love It

  • No prep. Share one link.
  • Every puzzle checks itself, and wrong answers come with a reason
  • Tom spots the common slips (adding instead of multiplying, stopping after step one, forgetting the remainder) and names them
  • A funny Thanksgiving story with a happy ending
  • Nothing to pick from a list: students work out and enter every answer themselves
